Our Clients

Instrument Concepts works with designers who use sensors.

Historically we’ve worked with technology leaders in the underwater and energy industries. But really, we can work with anyone who needs to make complex measurements.

Past successes include the following projects. If you are curious about any of these projects, contact us and we'll be happy to tell you more.

Hydrophone calibration and investigation tool for a manufacturer of towed hydrophone arrays.  Instrument Concepts provided the detailed design, hardware, and PC based application software. This let our client calibrate larger batches. By better accounting for environmental factors we improved accuracy. Improved centralized record keeping helped managers and engineers gain greater long-term control over  the quality of products produced.

Fiber optic sensor test and calibration system for a manufacturer of oilfield flow sensors and seismic sensors. Instrument Concepts provided the design, hardware system and PC based software for this solution. This let our client perform research and development measurements, and later calibrations without the need for heavy industrial field equipment, allowing greater ease of use, and a much safer environment for testers. Centralized data archiving gave engineers and managers greater control during development and production.

Seismic Cable Leveler for a manufacturer in the seismic industry. It involved working with the customer to define the architecture of the system, and then proceed to detailed design of the telemetry, vessel-side control system, and the in-water leveler. The finished product consisted of 3 main parts: A wireless modem system was  designed, including hardware and firmware; the leveler electronics and software were designed; and the vessel side system was designed and built. A sophisticated depth control algorithm was developed  to work with the unusual depth mechanics. The result was a highly configurable robust product.

Concept Design for new hydrophone array for an established manufacturer. Instrument Concepts evaluated all existing technology options, and supplied a concept design. This provided the client’s management with current information, and sufficient detail to proceed with it’s strategic decision making.

Underwater Compass/Magnetometer Calibration System for a marine technology manufacturer. Instrument Concepts performed the mathematical analysis, and provided custom software and fixture design assistance to create the calibration system.

The final accuracy exceeded the specification. This allowed the client to perform calibrations in-house, resulting in more control over quality and future developments, and lowered production costs.

Laboratory Monitoring System for a sub sea controls manufacturer. This involved designing a measurement system that provided numerous temperature and pressure readings in a hostile environment. Measurements made at a high rate ensured that sudden events were recorded. A centralized data archival system gave engineers and researchers timely access to results. This greater insight into product failure conditions give the client an edge in improving product quality.

Heave Compensation System simulator. Instrument Concepts created a PC-based software package that simulated the conditions of a tension leg heave compensator. The visual and numerical feedback gave the client a view of their system under extreme conditions and over time, benefiting in deeper insight into mechanical behavior, and guidance for materials design.
